Kitchen Pantry -> Then and Now
when i was young my parents did not allow us to eat a lot of junk food. our pantry was usually only filled w/ "healthy" snacks such as fruit roll ups, granola bars, pretzels, crackers, and low sugar cereals (special k, cheerios, rice kripsies).
i think the lack of junk food when i was young turned me into a junk food junkie. my pantry is now packed w/ chips, cookies, candy, and buttered popcorn.
how does your pantry (eating habits) differ from then to now?

Re: Kitchen Pantry -> Then and Now
We had our "sweet snacks" growing up but not a lot. When I first got married I packed my cabinets with chips and cookies. When I then began to gain weight from it I decided to throw it out. Now we are back to healthy foods and a "sweet snack" every once in a while.

Re: Kitchen Pantry -> Then and Now
then was so boring, and my mother would section out everyone portions Like we would each get a poptart, not a poptart pack, a single poptart. And it was always compromising with the others for flavors. Only vanilla ice cream, what everyone else liked. Things like cookies or raisin bread, she would rewrap with our portions. So for me it wasn't so much what is in my pantry, as far as I can't wait to have as many as I want.

Re: Kitchen Pantry -> Then and Now
I didn't eat a lot of junk food when I was a kid. I didn't miss it then, and I don't eat a whole of it now, either.

Re: Kitchen Pantry -> Then and Now
When I was younger my parents had cookies and stuff in the pantry.
Now that I am dieting its only healthy stuff, Snackwells, rice cakes but we do keep one unhealthy snack for emergencies, like Oreos

Re: Kitchen Pantry -> Then and Now
I was just thinking about this topic...well growing up my mom had some "junk" food that was used for snacks only after we got home from school. But we didn't grow up eating too much junl. Now that I'm older I do the same w/ my daughter. She gets some junk foods, but I try to stick w/ fruits and other kinds of food.

Re: Kitchen Pantry -> Then and Now
I think I am the "same". We usually had sweets in the house, and we still do. I may go a few weeks with no sweets, then, go back to it.

Re: Kitchen Pantry -> Then and Now
It's pretty much the same, except we had a lot more chips growing up b/c that's what my dad ate. The only "chips" I keep in are lowfat popcorn and pretzels.

Re: Kitchen Pantry -> Then and Now
My mom didn't allow me a lot of junk food. I think the worst thing in our pantry was oreo cookies. I was never allowed sugar cereals or soda. I was never a big junk eater and now I don't buy junk food either. However, my MIL who lives us insists on buying entemanns, kitkats, cakes and any other junk thats on sale. It makes me nuts because now that I have a child I don't want that stuff in the house. I have asked her a million times not too, but she still does. I think she does it just to annoy me.

Re: Kitchen Pantry -> Then and Now
As a kid: Always had chips, cookies, nuts ....anything yummy & snacky you can think of!!
As an adult with my own kitchen: Healthy snacks....granola bars, lite popcorn, baked potato chips, baked tortilla chips & salsa, hummas & pita bread..... all heathy!!
Reasoning: I ate so much of the crap as a kid & teenager I know HAVE to eat healthy to battle my weight!!

Re: Kitchen Pantry -> Then and Now
Pre Divorce: we had the sweet cereals, cookies for bedtime snack, ice cream sometimes.....
post divorce: step mom always kept some junk-chips, cookies sometimes, ice cream most of the time and honestly, as I got older, I stopped eating it so often even if it was there.
When I moved out my only promise to myself was to ALWAYS have ice cream!! And I never ate it more than a few days in a row. A half gallon could last me 3-4 weeks sometimes (depending on my mood/stress level). When I lived with DH family, they always had junk, a few bags of chips, cookies, ice cream....again didn't eat it all that often.
Now....chips will go stale sometimes. There is ALWAYS ice cream (PG or Not) and DH always has his snacks (oatmeal cream pies, oreos, etc).

Re: Kitchen Pantry -> Then and Now
I am about the same. As a kid I liked veggies and fruit to snack on by choice. we had "snack" always in the house.
Now I keep good stuff in the house to I DON'T eat crap. If I want junk, I'll by it on occassion.
